“Merging the Streams: Celebrating The United Methodist Church’s 50th Anniversary” will be held at United Theological Seminary from July 9-12, 2018 in Dayton, Ohio. This is the Historical Convocation of the Historical Society of The United Methodist Church, The North Central Jurisdiction Commission of Archives and History, The Wesleyan Historical Society, The Charles Wesley Society, and The General Commission on Archives and History. It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the merger between the Methodist and the Evangelical United Brethren churches in 1968. It celebrates the enduring legacies of the Evangelical Association and the United Brethren in Christ traditions and the ways by which these legacies have shaped United Methodist identity. It also marks the role the EUB had in the Methodist Church’s merger with its own historic African American membership by ending the racially segregated Central Jurisdiction. Speakers include Bishop Gregory Palmer, Steven O’Malley, Scott Kisker, Jennifer Woodruff-Tait, Sarah Blair, Wendy Deichmann, Patricia Thompson, William Davis, Morris Davis, Ian Straker, Ted Campbell, Russell Richey, and L. Dale Patterson. For details regarding registration, hotels, and schedule, please see https://www.umchistory.org/merging-streams.
