Conference Memoirs Index On-Line

New On-Line Resource for Annual Conference Memoirs

GCAH is pleased to announce the availability of the Index to the Conference Journal Memoirs in an on-line form. Over the past past 15 years GCAH has created an index to the memoirs and rolls of the dead found in the annual conference journals held in its collections. In every annual conference either a memoir is written for each deceased clergy member of the conference or the clergy’s name is entered into a list called the Roll of the Dead. In many cases spouses are also listed in the memoirs, as well as missionaries and deaconesses.

With information from the Index the researcher can either contact GCAH or an appropriate conference archives to receive a copy of the memoir. Since our holdings are not absolutely complete if a name is not here it does not mean that the person was not a minister. Names may not be in the Index for several reasons. Especially in the 19th century it was not uncommon for ministers to locate, or leave the ministry. In such cases those individuals would not have a memoir. More information about our genealogical services can be found at Genealogy.

The last major update to the Index was in 2000 when all of the journals up to the year 1968 had been entered. Staff have now taken the Index up to the year 2000 for almost all annual conferences based within the U. S. The database version will no longer be supported.   As more names are added to the Index they will be immediately available through the on-line version.

The Index can be accessed at : http://archives.gcah.org/exist/memoirs/memoirs.xq?show-form=yes
