Workshops

The following are 2-4 hour introductory workshops designed to make the Conference Commission member aware of the full range of duties.

• Establishing a Conference Archives - a survey of what is needed to start an archival program for the conference.

• Tasks of the Local Church Historian - a survey of what is involved in establishing a local church archives and history program.

• Records Management - what to keep and what to toss; also discusses electronic records

• Introduction to Description and Arrangement in the Archives - how to describe what is in the archives and then share it with others; discusses how to use the union database of conference archives called the United Methodist Archives Connection.

Upon request staff will also conduct a site visit of a conference archives. The purpose of the site visit is to evaluate the current program and to suggest possible strategies for the future. This is an all day event and requires the commission members, archivist and any other person involved in the archives to be present for all or part of the day.
