United Methodist History
To enable the collection of written and oral history and encourage research regarding the development of The United Methodist Church and its antecedents in any of the conferences not in the United States.
Grants totaling $3,000 will be available with each grant being at least $1,000 awarded at the discretion of the committee of judges.
How the recipients of the grants are chosen:
Selection is made by a committee consisting of three persons: one historian who is a member of The United Methodist Church, one member of the General Commission on Archives and History, and one member chosen at large by the General Secretary of the General Commission.
How to apply:
The applicant must submit an application which includes the following: (if at all possible the application should be in English but the applicant’s language will be accepted)
• Biographical information
• A description of the project, including its significance, what resources will be used, and how it will be made available to the public
• The expected date of completion
• An itemized budget
The applicant must submit three letters of recommendation from persons who can provide evidence of his/her capability.
Submitted proposals should be postmarked no later than December 31. Grant recipients will be announced by May 1 of the following year.
A reference copy of the final product will be donated to the General Commission on Archives and History of The United Methodist Church. The Commission will send copies to other United Methodist general agencies as appropriate.
