Methodist History
Methodist History online
A Quarterly Journal of the General Commission on Archives and History, The United Methodist Church

  • Methodist History is the official historical journal of the United Methodist Church.  Since 1962, the year of its inception, it has published articles, book reviews, pictures and illustrations, news and other information about the history of the Wesleyan and Methodist heritage.
  • The articles in Methodist History present the story of United Methodism with clarity and excitement.  They help to relate the past to the present in a meaningful way. To see a free online version of the current issue of Methodist History and past issues go to Methodist History online
  • Here you will find the stories of men and women whose lives have shaped United Methodism and descriptions of events and organizations which have formed the Methodist tradition.
  • This is a publication which can be read and enjoyed by lay people, clergy, and those who enjoy history.  It should be in every congregation's library and in the library of every institution where American history is seriously studied.

Editor's Update

We are living in a time of such rapid change in publishing that it is hard for many of us to keep current. The accessibility of materials online is one such change. With this in mind, the October 2009 issue of Methodist History and subsequent issues will be available free by accessing them through our website at www.gcah.org. Just bookmark this page and click on the "Methodist History Online" link above.

We will continue to receive subscriptions for the print version. One or two year subscriptions will be available. Change is occurring too fast for us to continue to offer a four year subscription. When your subscription expires, you may renew your subscription for the print version and/or you may request an email notice when the latest issue is available online.

By allowing free access through our web site, we hope to enable people around the world to have access to the journal without the high costs of international postage.
